King Charles Calls Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine “Unprovoked”

King Charles was enamored with love and attention by the French people in his first state visit to the country since becoming King.

In fact, he was welcomed to the country with a very sweet note from the country’s president, Emmanuel Macron, who wrote on X, “You visited as a Prince, you return as a king. Your Majesty, welcome.”

Speaking at France’s senate chamber on Thursday, September 21, King Charles touched on Britain’s “indispensable” friendship with France, climate change, and of course, the war in Ukraine.

Apart from the 18-minute speech being received with a standing ovation, it was also the first time that a royal has spoken at the chamber.

On Friday, King Charles and Queen Camilla concluded their 3-day visit to France, announcing that Britain’s relationship with their French neighbors is as “firm as it has ever been.”

He also spoke of his joy at being received by the two presidents of the two houses that make up France’s parliament, 231 years after France abolished monarchy in favor of a republic.

However, there was one topic that was of particular importance to him in his visit, and it’s the invasion of Ukraine by Russian forces.

Addressing the packed assembly in both English and French, he said, “More than 80 years since we fought, side by side, for the liberation of Europe, we once again face unprovoked aggression on our continent. Our alliance and our resolve are as important as ever. Together, we stand in resolute solidarity with the Ukrainian people. Together, we are steadfast in our determination Ukraine will triumph, and that our cherished freedoms will prevail.”

King Charles Says Climate Change Should Be Addressed As Forcefully As Countries Address “Military Aggression”

If there’s one thing King Charles will be remembered by, it’s his love for the environment. The royal has been a fan of organic farming long before it became cool to do so. So, it was not a surprise to see him talk about climate change in his historic speech at the chamber.

“Just as we stand together against military aggression, so must we strive together to protect the world from our most existential challenge, that of global warming, climate change and the catastrophic destruction of nature.”

Queen Camilla, on the other hand, also got to take time off on the visit to support a cause close to her heart: literacy. She even revealed that she and French’s First Lady share a “deep love of literature and a passion to promote literacy.”
