Kevin Costner plans to play a game of “hardball” in his battle against his estranged wife. And with the divorce representing $400 million at stake, the Yellowstone star won’t back down, say insiders.
Find out how Costner plans to use his money to win against Christine Baumgartner. And learn about her own games. Get all the details below.
Kevin Costner – Battles Estranged Wife For $400 Million
Insiders say that Kevin Costner’s estranged wife Christine Baumgartner might want to take notice of the actor’s divorce game plan. Because the Yellowstone actor has reportedly vowed to play “hardball” in his $400 million divorce battle with his estranged wife Christine Baumgartner. And insiders shared via Radar that Costner definitely owns enough money to “ride this out.”
However, sources also described Baumgartner as making a bold attempt to overturn her prenup with the Yellowstone actor. But Costner won’t back off. And instead, he reportedly told his lawyers to do what it takes to preserve his $400 million wealth.
“Kevin’s lawyers have carte blanche to play hardball,” revealed one insider. But on Christine’s side, lawyers insisted that she didn’t fully understand the prenup that she signed 18 years ago prior to tying the knot with the Yellowstone star. And the terms she supposedly didn’t comprehend include “supersedes” and “negotiation.”
Kevin Costner’s Estranged Wife Plays ‘Gamemanship’
However, the Yellowstone actor’s legal team slammed his estranged wife’s argument as representing “gamesmanship of the worst sort!” And insiders revealed that Costner has placed his bets on the prenup getting upheld. As a result, Christine would need to pay back the $1.5 million he already paid. And she also would face responsibility for paying his legal fees.
But a source insisted that the battle doesn’t represent “Kevin being vindictive or looking for revenge — or so he says.” At this point, the actor must pay $130k each month to support his children with Christine. The two share Cayden, 16, Hayes, 14, and Grace, 13.
However, Costner did get a court order to force his estranged wife from his $145 million Santa Barbara estate. But she thought that the actor would pay her a huge settlement after she left. Wrong.
Kevin Costner – Vows To ‘Ride This Out’
And an insider revealed, “He’s got enough money and willpower to ride this out and banish her from his personal universe — forever.” Helping Costner to win, his famous attorney, Laura Wasser, penned a motion asking the judge to sanction Baumgartner for her tactics. “Kevin has been prejudiced by Christine’s dilatory conduct, evasive responses and continuing refusal to make all of her contentions known,” read the motion.
And the attorney claimed, “Kevin acted expeditiously in propounding this discovery and Christine has only thrown roadblock after roadblock up in an unjustified effort to avoid answering this discovery. Monetary sanctions in the amount of not less than $14,237.50 should be ordered paid by Christine to Kevin. Discovery is not a game of chicken.”
Costner tied the knot with Baumgartner in 2004. But in May, she cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for filing for divorce. “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action,” shared a rep for the actor.
