It took Julie Chen more than two years to finally share her opinion on the events that led to her former co-host Sharon Osbourne’s departure from ‘The Talk.’ In an appearance on Andy Cohen’s ‘Watch What Happens Live,’ on Tuesday, September 19, Julie shared her two cents on how the situation would have been handled.
Speaking with host Andy, Julie said, “I think the whole thing was handled really horribly. It was very sad to see.” On hearing Julie’s thoughts Andy said, “It’s a show called The Talk. I thought they should’ve gone on and talked it out.” The 53-year-old concurred, “Yes. I don’t think people knew what they were doing and getting themselves into. The whole thing was a horrible mess. It was [like] watching a train wreck.”
Julie further shared that the last time she spoke with Sharon was 8 months before Sharon left the show. Her reason for contacting Sharon was “Because I saw a picture of [Sharon’s daughter Kelly Osbourne] looking really healthy and beautiful and I reached out to her.”
Julie and Sharon co-hosted the CBS daytime show “The Talk” since its launch in 2010. However, while Julie stepped down from her position in 2018 around when her husband, former CBS chairman Les Moonves was accused of sexual misconduct, Sharon exited the show in 2021.
It happened that Sharon, 70, defended her friend Piers Morgan’s controversial input on Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey. Sharon’s support for Piers on-air turned into a serious argument between her and co-host Sheryl Underwood.
Amid the heated exchange, Sheryl, 59, told Sharon, “The fact that you don’t even want to take into consideration that [Meghan Markle’s] desire to want to end her own life is connected to her race, that dismissal makes it a racist situation.”
Although Sharon later apologized for her actions after “being accused of being racist,” CBS took up the matter for review and afterwards released a statement saying, “The events of the March 10 broadcast were upsetting to everyone involved, including the audience watching at home.
As part of our review, we concluded that Sharon’s behavior toward her co-hosts during the March 10 episode did not align with our values for a respectful workplace.”
