In May 2022, Josh was sentenced to 151 months in federal prison which is approximately 12 and a half years. He was found guilty of sharing and having in his possession child pornography.
Reports have it that Anna chose to remain married to Josh because she believes Josh is innocent of the charges even though Josh had always been a serial cheat back when he was still with his wife.
Josh already has a long history of predatory behavior, and he was involved in numerous sex scandals prior to his arrest and sentencing. While Josh was still a teenager, Josh molested five young girls, four of whom were his sisters.
His parents helped him evade prosecution, and the family successfully kept the attacks under wraps for several years.
In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the “Counting On” alum shares her eagerness to stand by Anna, should Anna ever need her help. “I am always here for Anna and the kids at any point that they would want to talk, or in any way I could help and love on them.”
Continuing, Jinger said, “I know that they’ve just been through so much and so I just always am here for them whenever they need help.”
She went on to say how she feels about her brother’s actions. “It’s so heartbreaking to see the decisions my brother Josh has made, and my heart breaks for the victims and their families and all that they’ve been through. I pray that Josh will genuinely change one day and come to know Christ for who he is and repent.”
Jinger also revealed that she hasn’t spoken to Josh in two years and, “I don’t have any desire to talk to him.”
The star of “19 Kids & Counting” also shared with PEOPLE the contents of her upcoming memoir “Becoming Free Indeed.” It’s about her experience going up in her family, surrounded by tight rules which she has come to the realization that they were harmful. She described it as being in a cult.
“Fear was a huge part of my childhood, I thought I had to wear only skirts and dresses to please God. Music with drums, places I went or the wrong friendships could all bring harm.” said Jinger in a zoom interview with PEOPLE.
The reality tv star went on to share the harmful things and beliefs they were made to follow. The wrong teachings all came from the disgraced Bill Gothard and his Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP) ministry.
Jinger said, “[Gothard’s] teachings in a nutshell are based on fear and superstition and leave you in a place where you feel like, ‘I don’t know what God expects of me,’ The fear kept me crippled with anxiety. I was terrified of the outside world.”
She also said, “His teachings were so harmful, and I’m seeing more of the effects of that in the lives of my friends and people who grew up in that community with me.”
