The pressure to constantly look over one’s shoulder, conduct shady business deals, and maneuver through dangerous situations takes a toll on both the individual and their family. It’s a sacrifice that ultimately leaves broken homes and heartache in its wake. While the mob may consist of “families,” it’s no environment to raise one. Just ask Josslyn ‘Joss’ Jacks (Eden McCoy).

Fans have speculated for some time that Dex wasn’t merely taking a job with Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) when he signed up to take down renowned crime boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). He absolutely has an agenda of his own — and it has everything to do with his father.

For Sonny, danger and the mob have consumed his life. As a mafia boss, he has always put his loved ones at risk, whether he wants to admit to that or not.

His right-hand man, Jason Morgan (Steve Burton), has shared the same sentiment. Both men have made it clear that family and business should never intersect, but unfortunately, that’s easier said than done.

They have been forced to make difficult choices and both have walked away from countless loved ones they held dear in order to keep them safe. Tragedy and loss have been a constant presence in their lives.

Dex didn’t just take that job with Michael for money. He wanted a way in, and this was the first one he saw. He’s been biding his time and hoping for an opportunity to infiltrate Sonny’s business, and he lucked out in striking while the iron was hot with Michael.

It couldn’t have been better timing as Dex was eyeing Port Charles ever since he heard about Jason’s death. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. This may not be about avenging Jason. He could have just seen an opening and decided to take it.

Perhaps Jason is Dex’s father. That would explain why it’s so important for him to take Sonny down for good. He might blame the mob boss for his father’s premature death — and credit him with robbing him of the chance to know Jason.

On the other hand, Sonny could be his father. Maybe he resents him for choosing the mob over family life and never being there for his son. It’s possible he thinks Sonny knew about him all along and opted out. It’s hard to say right now why he’s targeting Sonny, but either way, someone is about to gain a relative in Port Charles.
