General Hospital spoilers and rumors tease Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth) might have been in on keeping Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss) alive on life support. He wasn’t worried when the tack closet Ava Jerome (Maura West) stuffed him in was empty when police swept came, and Mason Gatlin (Nathanyael Gray) would have needed help.
Where was Nikolas taken after he was removed from the tack closet and put on life support? According to General Hospital spoilers, Mason doesn’t appear to have any medical skills and a layman can’t just rent a ventilator and a room to keep a patient alive on it.
Nikolas was enough near death that Ava couldn’t find a pulse, although she didn’t really check that well-Austin even asked her if she was sure that he was dead! That near death, he had to be taken somewhere close-possibly in Helena Cassadine’s (Constance Towers) old lab under GH, where Austin would have had to get access and set it up.
Mason had brought Austin patients in GH before, but it is unclear exactly where Austin did the operations. It looked like a standard empty operating room but would have had to have been somewhere private other doctors and nurses couldn’t access.
It’s doubtful that Mason knows anything about the Cassadine compound in Chechnya, Russia, where Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and Laura Collins (Genie Francis) are currently searching. But one place that he does know about and could have gone when he went out of town is Pautauk, New York where Austin had his medical practice. He could have moved Nikolas, life support and all, to Austin’s old practice which may have the equipment-and people-to help keep Nikolas alive until he’s no longer useful.
Exactly why Nikolas would have been useful alive to Mason and perhaps even Austin is a mystery-Mason’s murder leverage over Ava isn’t useful if he’s alive!
Austin had to have helped with the life support setup for Nikolas, but then again, there may be leverage on him to keep the secret rescue to himself. There seems to be reasons to keep Nikolas alive and keep him presumed dead both, like they’re playing both ends against the middle. They have underlings who also are obviously involved, Mason’s so called nanny Betty Rutherford (Ella Lentini) for one, and she is pretty dangerous herself.
If not Austin, then Mason definitely had help from someone to get Nikolas stabilized and to wherever he was when he was shown on that vent. But there’s a good chance that it was Austin, and there’s some reason that Nikolas would have been more valuable to the “family” alive or Mason would have finished him off.
