Spencer will slip into Esme’s room when no one is looking, and the borrowed time he finds there will give him just enough face time with her to convince himself Esme isn’t being completely honest, but also may not be lying about her memory loss.
When Martin ‘Marty’ Grey (Michael E. Knight) gets wind of what’s going down in his patient’s hospital room, he won’t waste time rushing to her side. Marty might assume Spencer was only doing his father’s bidding, and Esme could jump to Spencer’s defense in that moment, insisting it was his own doing. How would she know though? This could leave Spencer feeling like he was right about Esme all along, and he might even commiserate with her — if only enough to acknowledge he knows how it feels to be a victim of his father’s.
The truth is, Esme hasn’t revealed her own name to anyone because she may not remember it. Calling her Esme all day long might not be jogging many memories because she may not be a girl named Esme after all. Could her con have started long before she ever met Spencer at boarding school? Is she someone else entirely who targeted Spencer for a variety of other reasons that haven’t come to light yet?
Something tells us Esme’s plans for Port Chuck are built on a lot more than just Ryan Chamberlain’s (Jon Lindstrom) distaste for Nikolas, nor his love-hate relationship with Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West). When the truth comes out and people learn Esme isn’t Esme, it may also reveal who her parents are — both sets of them.
There has been much focus on Esme’s birth parents — Ryan, as well as Heather Webber (Alley Mills). It wouldn’t surprise anyone to find out Esme is the apple who didn’t fall far enough from their family tree. However, there’s been little to no focus on how Esme grew up and who her adoptive parents were. Last year, she briefly mentioned to Cameron ‘Cam’ Webber (William Lipton) and the rest of the gang she had hoped to befriend that her adoptive parents were in the midst of a divorce when they both died.
We don’t know the circumstances of their deaths, nor if Esme was involved, but she did hint around to a third party being the cause of their marital discord. Did Esme come back to Port Charles playing the role of Spencer’s girlfriend just to target the person who broke up her happy home? The closer Spencer gets to this truth, the more it’s going to hit home. Stay tuned for more GH news and spoilers to find out.
