General Hospital spoilers suggest Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) is every bit as in over his head that Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) worried he was.

When she convinced Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) to keep paying Dex Heller (Evan Hofer) to spy on Sonny’s business operations, it was with the best of intentions. She knew Sonny was getting involved in some pretty risky business that was unlike anything he had done before, and she wanted to have his back — indirectly.

The last thing she needs is for him to get the idea that she was acting from a place of anything more than a concerned friend.

But with the evidence stacked against Sonny and his business at risk of imploding, having Diane Miller (Carolyn Hennesy) on his side won’t be enough. Can Sonny’s former Mrs come through without sending the wrong message?

It’s not often that we see Diane lose a case, much less buckle under pressure. But word on the street is she’s not going to have much luck disproving any of the evidence the feds have against Sonny.

While he might be furious that he got caught, he’s going to wonder who set him up more than he might be wondering whether he will ever get out from behind bars again.

Sure, he’s been in this position countless times before, and Diane has always come through for him. But it sounds like this time isn’t going to be that easy.

With Sonny in lock-up, all of his loved ones will be at risk. The Five Families may quickly decide to descend upon Sonny’s territory if he’s not out of prison and able to block attempts at a hostile takeover.

Without Sonny cutting checks and keeping his enemies in their place, his family members’ lives are in danger.

No one knows this better than Carly, who refused to make a deal weeks ago that would’ve let Sonny essentially her place in the SEC scuffle. Why?

She claimed they needed Sonny to be a free man if everyone was going to stay safe, but is that the only reason?

With Sonny unable to run his own business, and Dex being far too new at this to take over like Jason Morgan (Steve Burton) would have, there is likely only one person left on the shortlist who can pull this off.

Will the Five Families bow down to Carly this time around without Jason’s reassurance? Will they accept her alliance with Sonny when they are now divorced and Nina’s Reeves (Cynthia Watros) is slated to marry him?
