Ever since she met him, she has only paid consequence after consequence for getting tangled up in his messes. When Trina came home from Greenland — a hostage freed — she was eager to see her mom and tell her she still loved her. General Hospital spoilers indicate Trina wants to move forward, but she’s definitely not expecting her mom to give her such a hard time about who she chooses to spend her time with.
When the issue is finally brought to a head, it will be Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) who diffuses it by supporting Trina and Spencer. At the same time, he may be throwing his wife under the bus. Is this some sort of penance for her lies? What gives?
Portia’s worries for her daughter are understandable; any mother would be concerned for their child’s safety in such dire situations as Trina has recently found herself in.
However, the tension between these two had been simmering long before Trina was held hostage on an island. That the rift began when Trina discovered the truth — that her mother was never sure who Trina’s father was.
The situation became even more complicated when Trina’s “Dad” had no idea about this revelation either. Although Trina has returned safely, Portia’s attempts to repair their relationship are misguided and potentially harmful when she wants to have a relationship with Trina on her own terms.
Will this mother and daughter ever truly reconnect? Not if Portia can’t keep her opinions to herself.
It’s evident that Portia’s actions have caused significant damage not only to her relationship with Trina but also to the relationship between Trina and Marcus Tagggert (Réal Andrews) — and now the truth is out.
There is no putting this back in the box: Curtis is Trina’s biological father and nothing will ever really be the same. While Trina, Curtis, and Marcus are trying to process the news, Portia is still going to be completely consumed with how much time Trina is spending with Spencer.
When she starts making comments that she knows she shouldn’t — testing the boundaries to see how far she can go and just what Trina will let her get away with — it’s going to be clear that this mother and daughter are not the same gal pals they once were, and Portia’s opinions are not welcome.
Finding out Curtis is her father was a startling moment for Trina, but she won’t have any regrets. It’s better to have the truth out in the open, and now they can all start to move forward, which is the only way to put any of this behind them.
Trina was quick to tell Curtis she already has a Dad and isn’t looking for a replacement, but that was before she knew just how much Curtis was in her corner. When he’s the only one standing who supports her romance with Spencer, he might seem far more appealing than the parents she grew up with.
At the same time, Portia just might second-guess her decision to mend her marriage if she thinks this is how it’s going to be — Curtis playing good cop and making her the bad guy in Trina’s eyes. Keep checking back with us for more GH news and spoilers just ahead to see how this pans out.
