Nina is very sensitive when it comes to feeling like Sonny might be siding with Carly or more protective of his ex-wife’s feelings than Nina’s. That might be why it’s so triggering for Nina to see her alleged friend — Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) — disregard Carly’s crimes as though she’s done nothing and choose to move on with her as her boyfriend. When Nina makes it clear where she stands, she’s hopeful that Drew might give some thought to the consequences of his actions and decide differently, but clearly that is not the case.
Nina hasn’t felt this alone in quite some time. Everywhere she looks, everyone impacted by Carly’s recent indiscretion seems to be moving along just fine as though Carly has done nothing wrong. What about Willow Tait (Katelyn MacMullen)? Why isn’t she more furious that Carly kept the truth from her that Nina is her birth mother? Why isn’t she holding Carly responsible for nearly potentially costing her her life? How is it Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) isn’t ready to take Carly’s head off much the way he has his father? Are Nina’s feelings that much less significant than Carly’s? It would appear so.
When Nina realized Drew was more than just friends with Carly, it sent a cascade of feelings through her she couldn’t have possibly expected. She thought she and Drew were friends. She thought Drew’s search for Willow’s birth parents was just as important to him as it was to Willow. So why isn’t everyone up in arms that Carly intentionally derailed it?
How could Drew possibly just jump back between the sheets with his girlfriend without giving it much thought about what she had done or the fact that she might do it again? Nina is hopeful that if she appeals to Drew’s reasonable side and tells him how his behavior makes her feel, he might at least lend more time to mulling over Carly’s actions. When she lays it out for him, she will tell Drew if he chooses to support Carly and act like she’s done nothing wrong while continuing a relationship with her, that their friendship is done.
From where Drew sits, he actually already has thought about what Carly has done. He decided that should she do something like that again, he knows another lie would be the end of them. However, Carly seems sincere enough in her apologies and attempts to right her wrongs that he is willing to give their relationship another shot. He’s sad that Nina is giving him an ultimatum, but he sees that as Nina’s problem — not his. Nina will be further devastated that Drew isn’t willing to see things from her point of view enough to restrict his relationship with Carly over it. This isn’t going to end well for any of them.
