But she’s equally not willing to let go of him and wants to live their life together. It’s a difficult situation to be in, but there could be a third solution they haven’t yet considered. The possibility of taking on Sonny themselves and bringing him down might be worth the risk if it means they get to be together without fear of violence or retribution. Can Joss convince Dex that this is the best course of action, or will they be forced to accept the inevitable and go their separate ways?
Joss knows that every time Dex leaves her side to go to work, there’s a chance that it could be the last time she ever sees him. She wants a normal boyfriend who she can rely on for a future, not one who’s constantly putting himself in danger as a mob enforcer. But Dex is different. It’s not just about the money. He wants to be involved in this life. He’s not stuck in it, despite what he may let Joss think.
When she went to Sonny to try and get Dex a get out of the mob free card, she was met with a harsh reality – Sonny is only going to entertain that conversation with Dex, not with Joss. But Joss knows on an instinctive level that Dex is happy where he is. So, she’s lying to herself and hoping he loves her enough to come around and make those lies come true.
Dex has come to care about Sonny and doesn’t think he’s a bad guy. The difficulty lies in how to tell Joss that. Dex is aware of Joss’ concerns but finds himself unable to be open and honest with her. He will watch as she obsesses over finding a way out of the mob, all the while, feeling conflicted about potentially leaving the life he enjoys and has become accustomed to. When Joss devises a plan to carry out a hit on Sonny, it will become clear that Dex can no longer dance around the issue at hand. He is unwilling to go along with her plan, but he can’t reveal that he doesn’t want to leave the mob either. How will he find a way out of this mess?
Despite his reservations, Dex will be left with little choice but to follow Joss’ plan. She’s going to reach a point where she will stop at nothing to see this through, leaving Dex sweating the whole time. There’s going to be a nagging suspicion in the back of Dex’s mind that Joss knows she’s pushing against his wishes, and it will cause him to question her determination even more.
Nevertheless, he will recognize that if he doesn’t help her, things could take a turn for the worse. As a result, Dex will have to put aside his own doubts and fears and reluctantly go along with Joss’ strategy. The question remains, however, whether it’s even possible for him to keep the situation under control.
