GH Spoilers: Is Austin Really Afraid Of Mason — Or Working With Him?

General Hospital (GH) spoilers reveal Austin Gatlin Holt (Roger Howarth) may be up to no good while pretending to be an ally to Ava Jerome (Maura West). Ever since Austin first stepped in to save Ava from herself — after she clobbered her ex-husband, Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss), over the head and thought she killed him — the two have forged a friendship built on shared trauma.

But Ava is nobody’s fool, right? Now that Austin’s shady cousin, Mason Gatlin (Nathanyael Grey), has been thrown into the mix, Ava has found herself questioning whether Mason is really working on someone else’s orders. Austin seems fixated on convincing Ava that the people ordering Mason to do their bidding are too dangerous for her to even know their names, but what if their name is Austin?

Ava has doubts, and that’s becoming more clear to Austin as time goes on. He just can’t seem to get her over this hurdle and convince her that following in line with Mason’s demands is the right decision. Ava isn’t one to make any kind of decision in haste. She likes to mull this kind of thing over, perhaps, with a martini — or six. She knows what kind of destruction can come of acting too quickly, and something tells her that Mason has gone rogue — or perhaps he’s not working for whomever Austin believes he is.

Austin sure does have Ava‘s number though. He knows how to get under her skin, and he knows what can make her bend to a man’s will. Countless others have come into Ava‘s life and done the same thing, leading us to question why she hasn’t learned her lesson. Desperate enough for affection, love, and someone who will truly clean up her messes and keep her secrets close to their chest, Ava has made a series of bad mistakes out of a place of longing for a real partner in her life. Austin is going to work that weakness to his advantage, as he starts flirting with Ava, and entertaining the idea of being more than just her friend. Is the good doctor really all that interested in a love affair with Ms. Jerome, or is he working his own angle and trying to manipulate her into taking down Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard)?

It’s possible that Austin and Mason are working together as a team, and it doesn’t even seem like Austin is all that against it as he once was. But this begs the question: who is the “boss lady” and what happened to her? Is Austin back to taking orders from her after he swore he was done with that? Is she somehow out of the picture and Austin and Mason are working together on their own to defeat Sonny’s empire? Why Sonny anyway? What does he have that the rest of the mobsters in town don’t?
