GH Spoilers: Is Austin Gatlin-Holt A Good Guy Or A Bad Guy?

General Hospital (GH) spoilers note that the soap killed off serial killer turned beloved character Franco Baldwin (Roger Howarth) to give us Austin Gatlin-Holt (Roger Howarth). But, why?

Franco had a solid place in Port Charles. He was married to Elizabeth Webber (Rebeca Herbst) and became a wonderful stepfather to her three sons. He had a good relationship with his dad, legacy character Scott Baldwin (Kin Shriner), and a great friendship with Ava Jerome (Maura West). Even those who once despised him had come around a bit.

Franco was murdered, and suddenly a new character appeared in Austin. Fans haven’t exactly warmed up to Dr. Holt and don’t understand his place on GH.

General Hospital Spoilers – What’s The Deal With Austin Gatlin-Holt?

Austin is the son of Jimmy Lee Holt (Steve Bond), who is the illegitimate son of Edward Quartermaine (David Lewis). This makes him a Quartermaine.

After he stumbled upon a pregnant Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms) and helped her give birth in the woods, he came to Port Charles to try to gain part of the Q fortune. Once that story ended, he had a short relationship with Maxie but the two never had much chemistry.

Austin was a little shady when he threatened Damien Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) to run his Society Setups algorithm to put him together with Maxie. Well, no one threatens Spinelli as far as Maxie is concerned so that put her and Austin’s relationship to an end.

Since then, he hasn’t had much of a storyline except for finding Ava Jerome (Maura West) right after she hit Nikolas Cassadine (Marcus Coloma) over the head and thought he was dead. He has been protecting Ava’s secret ever since. But why?

GH Spoilers – Is Austin Gatlin-Holt Working With Mason Gatlin Or Against Him?

Austin’s creepy cousin Mason (Nathanyael Grey) has been lurking around and threatening him for a while. He somehow found Nikolas’ “body” and is keeping him alive but in a coma. Cuz is now demanding that Ava do his bidding and spy on Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) for a mystery woman he works for.

Austin claims to be protecting Ava. He insists she does whatever Mason asks or there will be dire consequences. He says that this person will do terrible things to Ava and those she loves (like her daughter) if she does not comply. Ava has already lost one daughter to a madman, she doesn’t intend to lose another.

It could be that Austin’s intentions are good and that he is afraid for his friend. He may be truly trying to help her and keep her out of trouble.

Or he might be working with Mason and this mystery woman to scare Ava into getting information on Sonny Corinthos. He may have been in on it the whole time. We don’t know a lot about Dr. Holt’s backstory. He certainly seems like a kind and caring doctor, but there could be another side to him.

The biggest question of them all is…why doesn’t Ava just tell Sonny what is going on? He would help her and protect her for his daughter’s sake.
