Drew realizes that his and Carly’s, and well, mostly the whole Quartermaine family’s assumptions that Ned Quartermaine (Wally Kurth) is the whistleblower could be wrong. For an anonymous whistleblower, Ned would seem to be way too obvious and he would have known he’d be the main suspect because of talking about insider trading before. The timing is suspect as well – if Ned had wanted to turn Drew and Carly in for insider trading, why wait this long, what would it benefit him?
It would make more sense if Drew and Michael Corinthos (Chad Duell) were making merger talk again, but it would be unfair. Ned was the sole ELQ CEO handling everything during the time period up until Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) and Drew returned from Greenland.
Even though Ned focuses greatly on the bottom line and worries excessively about optics and what ELQ’s investors will think, he still values his family. Willow Corinthos (Katelyn MacMullen) is part of that family, now married to his cousin Michael and while Drew was busy rescuing her bone marrow donor would not be time to squeal! Ned had shown some lack of discretion when he bugged Valentin to make a statement to investors while Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) was fighting for her life but he’s not family. Drew needs to be able to exonerate himself and Sonny and he both might mount a search through their various means to find out who the whistleblower really is. If the whistleblower could have had any grudge against Drew or Carly or even Michael, that could be their real reason for reporting and could possibly be motivation for falsely reporting.
Anyone close to either ELQ or Aurora Media could have committed accidental insider trading, figuring purchasing some stock prior to the merger couldn’t hurt. The SEC has a case but if Drew and Carly couldn’t be proven to be in a close relationship at the time that flies out the door. Coming after Michael and Carly would make more sense, since what mother wouldn’t want to help their son?
Drew will have some suspicions about Nina blowing the whistle, simply because she’s overcompensating with Carly. He and Carly might mention this to Sonny, who’ll start doing deeper digging-and he might find himself agreeing Nina would be the one who would benefit the most!
