General Hospital (GH) star Jon Lindstrom just experiences one of his most iconic soap characters dying (again), but that does not mean he is out of work.
For decades Port Charles residents and General Hospital fans believed that Ryan Chamberlain had died in a funhouse fire back in the 1990s and put his reign of terror behind them. Then, in 2018, fans learned he was alive and living in Ferncliff after discovering that he had switched places with his brother, Dr. Kevin Collins, also played by Jon Lindstrom. In fact, Kevin had known Ryan was alive for years.
General Hospital’s Spoilers – Ryan Chamberlain Is Gone
During Ryan’s stint pretending to be Kevin, he killed Kiki Jerome (Hayley Erin), thinking it was a favor to Ava Jerome (Maura West), with whom he was obsessed. And that obsession never ended. Ryan may have been faking locked-in syndrome for the past few years, but he also learned he had a daughter, Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl), and he dispatched the teen to ruin Ava’s marriage to Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss).
Ryan was having it out with Ava when she had no qualms about shooting him, but it was Mac Scorpio (John J. York) who got the kill shot in and it looks as if Ryan is gone for good now. Lindstrom is pragmatic about losing this character.
G&H Spoilers – Ryan Chamberlain’s Final Showdown
“It’s not my show. If the powers-that-be figure that there’s a character that has to be taken off the canvas in order to move other characters forward, that’s the way it is,” Lindstrom said in the March 13, 2023, issue of Soap Opera Digest. “And you know, if Ryan is gone again after 25 years of having been thought dead, 25 years from now, they could just bring him back.”
Still, Lindstrom had fun with Ryan’s last days, especially his banter with Alley Mill’s Heather Webber.
“She is absolutely wonderful to work with,” Lindstrom said. “She’s very old-school, which I really appreciate. For an old guy like me, I love that she wants to rehearse and she wants to find the beats and the truth in the scenes for herself and for the relationships.”
Perhaps Lindstrom will get a chance to work with her again, considering that both Heather and Kevin are still very much alive. Stay tuned to General Hospital weekdays to see if Ryan is really and sincerely dead.
