General Hospital’s Rebecca Herbst Didn’t Want This Story Cut Short

Rebecca Herbst General Hospital fans thought they were going to get some long-term story with Esme locked in a Wyndemere tower and Elizabeth faking a pregnancy, but sadly, that was not meant to be.

General Hospital Spoilers – Time To Live It Up — Or Die — On Spoon Island

December was a wild ride for Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and General Hospital fans as they watched her finally break free of Hamilton Finn (Michael Easton) and become more like her old self again as she conspired with Nikolas Cassadine (Adam Huss) to keep a pregnant Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) locked up.

She and Nikolas had been friends since high school, as well as lovers, and always kept secrets for one another so it made sense that Liz would go to extremes to help Nikolas. When a nosy Finn questioned prenatal vitamins on General Hospital, she quickly lied and said she was pregnant with Nikolas’ child and we were all so excited for a good soapy fake pregnancy while Elizabeth took care of the real pregnant young woman.

GH Spoilers – Ryan Chamberlain And Heather Webber Are Nuttier Than Ever

Alas, GH seemed to change course at the last minute and do an about-face. Elizabeth quickly pretended to have a miscarriage and soon confessed everything to Finn for no real reason and ended up in his orbit again. Nikolas is now presumed dead, Esme has escaped, and has amnesia, and Liz is ready to turn herself in after this whole ordeal. Too bad Rebecca Herbst is as disappointed by the whole turn of events as her fans.

“It was so much fun for me to do,” Herbst said in the February 23, 2023, issue of Soap Opera Digest. “I loved, loved, loved being interjected into that storyline and I love little Avery — she’s just such a sweet person and I really like her. Very professional, very mature for her age and I love that she doesn’t put her shoes on the bed when we’re rehearsing scenes.”

Still, the way the story ended so abruptly after having so much potential was life whiplash — especially for the audience.

“I feel like it’s a soap, you should keep that secret!” Herbst said. And she has a good point. Why create such a juicy soapy story only to burst the soap bubble within weeks? Stay tuned to General Hospital weekdays to see how these stories play out.
