General Hospital spoilers tease Elizabeth Baldwin (Rebecca Herbst) wasn’t expecting to see her mom back in Port Charles ever again. Her surprise visit has left Liz rattled, and that’s the last thing she needed with all that is going on in her life right now — not that anyone would know it.

Laura Collins (Genie Francis) could tell when she sat down with Elizabeth that something was bothering her, but Nikolas Cassadine’s (Adam Huss) mother is the last person Elizabeth can safely confide in right now — not to mention Laura is the town mayor.

However, her own mother is a different story. Elizabeth might not necessarily trust Carolyn Webber (Denise Crosby), but she’s been desperate to confide in someone and unburden herself. When it seemed like her mom was willing to help ease that burden, Elizabeth told her the truth.

We saw Carolyn leave GH with the intent of leaving town, and her conversation with Elizabeth seems final, albeit peaceful. It left Elizabeth with a smile, which isn’t something she embraces very often as of recent. Word on the street is Carolyn isn’t going to leave town just yet. She might have an inkling that her daughter still needs her, or Elizabeth may catch up with her just in time to stop her from heading back to California — but why?

Although Elizabeth is furious that Nikolas called her mother here and asked her to perform unethical medical harm to Esme Prince (Avery Kristen Pohl) on the off chance of being able to suppress her memories and safeguard he and Elizabeth, Liz won’t be so worried about her mom’s conscience or doing the right thing when they speak again. Could she come clean to the PCPD?

Sure, and face jail time that would leave her children with no parent. Desperate to make it all go away and insisting she has learned her lesson, Elizabeth may ask Carolyn to carry on with the plan to suppress Esme’s memories anyway, but to do it for Elizabeth and her boys, not for Nik.

Carolyn is in a tough spot with her daughter. It’s been 25 years of having no relationship with her and now the only way she sees herself getting back into Elizabeth’s good graces is to do the very thing that ruined their relationship in the first place. She might be conflicted about why Elizabeth would condone her doing this to Esme when she certainly didn’t and doesn’t condone that she did it to her, and Elizabeth will also struggle with the same conflict in her mind.
