First, it was his suggestion that Leo Quartermaine (Easton Rocket Sweda) had autism that landed him in double trouble with his family — who already disliked him since he was seeking to reopen Edward Quartermaine’s (John Ingle) long-settled estate.

Then, he blackmailed Damian Spinelli (Bradford Anderson), which was a death knell to his relationship with Maxie Jones (Kirsten Storms). Now, he’s moving dead bodies and agreeing to dispose of them?

Somehow, everyone still loves him and he’s about to charm someone else into his bed — but who? Word has it, one of Franco Baldwin’s (also played by Howarth) exes will wind up falling for the charming Pautauk doc.

More recently, General Hospital spoilers show Austin’s entanglement with Ava Jerome Cassadine (Maura West) has left a bit of a stain, but he’s enjoying his budding friendship with her. They seem to understand each other well, and that may have to do with having similar family backgrounds.

Nonetheless, they have enough in common that they could certainly see romance flourish out of the ashes of the trauma they both bore when Ryan Chamberlain (Jon Lindstrom) showed up on Spoon Island — gun in hand, and Heather Webber (Alley Mills) hooked Austin, leaving him to bleed out. If that doesn’t sound like romance in Port Charles, what does?

Some fans might struggle to see it, but Carly could be next on Austin’s list of bed notches. Sure, she’s head over heels for Drew Cain (Cameron Mathison) right now, but he’s out of town. Carly has never been good at being alone; that may be why she and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) are so darn compatible.

One night off from romance is too much for those two. Carly and Franco were lovers long ago on General Hospital, when he was still spellbound by his brain tumor. A love affair between Austin and Carly sure would show off the chemistry between them well, but a humble and backwoods doctor is hardly Carly’s type. Will she only take to him after learning about his darker familial roots?

Soon, Austin is going to score big, and Elizabeth won’t hesitate to praise him for his accomplishments. When she lays on the heavy flattery, it might give the good doctor other ideas about what she’s angling for.
