According to Harold Perrineau, who plays Boyd in the MGM+ series, From, Tabitha’s tower twist in the season 2 finale “depends on your definition of death.” Fans are still in a state of shock after the final episode of the second season aired and are looking for answers. Read on to find out what we now know, but be aware that the article contains spoilers for season 2, episode 10 “Once Upon a Time.”
What does the season 2 finale of From mean?
Fans will recall that controversial ending of season 2, where Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) was pushed out of the lighthouse by the ominous Boy in White. Following this, a clearly injured Tabitha awakens in a hospital in a different town. This left fans wondering if she had escaped the town and returned to civilization. If this is the case, what about her husband and children?
In an interview with TV Insider, Harold Perrineau, who plays Sheriff Boyd Stevens, shared his thoughts on that game-changing cliffhanger from the finale of From season 2. Boyd is trying his best to keep the townspeople safe from the monsters in a town that no one can leave.
Tabitha Matthews arrived in the town with her family in the pilot for season 1, but in the finale of season 2, she is pushed out of the lighthouse by the mysterious Boy in White. Tabitha went on to awaken in a strange hospital in another town, leaving the finale unclear as to whether she has truly escaped the town.
During the interview, Perrineau was asked about that controversial From cliffhanger and what he thinks it means. Obviously, he had to stay away from giving spoilers, but he did give some intriguing theories that could explain what happened to Tabitha. He said:
Somebody asked me this recently. They said, “Is anybody going to die?” And I went, “Well, you know, depends on your definition of death, I guess.” So, if you think she’s dead, then, yeah, maybe you have to die to leave the town. If you think she’s just gone, then we have to assume the town is somewhere that you can enter and exit. It’s just a matter of finding out how to get to that entrance and exit, and clearly, The Boy in White just pushes her.
The Lost alum said for him, he is curious about whether Victor’s mother is out there and did the same thing happen to her? He asked whether she is still looking for Victor, adding:
Is that what happened to her? Did she not come back? Is there a way back? Is she still looking for him? When Tabitha wakes up in that new town, I was just like, “Whoa! Oh, no, this is about to get wild.” Because this is gonna set off trauma in the town, and trauma with her; if she’s dead, then she’s in hell then. And if she’s dead, she’s in hell because she’s gonna keep thinking she can get back to her family. But I reckon she’s not dead.
How will season 3 continue from the cliffhanger?
Judging from Perrineau’s comments, From season 3 will vary from the previous seasons. In seasons 1 and 2, fans saw the families driving into town and took place entirely in the mysterious town and its forest. However, after what has happened to Tabitha, it looks like where she is now will be an important location for season 3 and will expand the scope of the show.
It is likely that season 3 will split the storyline between the town, where people are panicking after her disappearance, and Tabitha’s mysterious location. Does the new season reveal her searching for other characters, including Victor’s mother, Boyd’s wife Abby and others who have seemingly died? Did they all escape to the real world after they died as Tabitha did? Will they all work together to try and reunite with their family members back in the town?
Hopefully, season 3 will offer an explanation as to how all the characters entered the town from so many locations, all ending up at that darned tree across the road. Watch the full interview with Perrineau on TV Insider.
