Drew Barrymore recently shared her thoughts on her strained relationship with her mother in an interview, revealing just how fractured their connection is. This week, she claimed to envy her friends who have already lost their parents. While the majority of fans found her remarks shocking, many individuals who have experienced similar situations with their own parents could sympathize with her feelings.

These days, the actress is a talk show host and more, and she is wealthy. Well, wealth doesn’t make folks happy. And, it certainly doesn’t seem to make it any easier to forgive those who wrong each other. All the money in the world never seemed to buy the movie star a way forward with her mom, Jaid. Today, Drew Barrymore has a successful acting career, presents high-profile awards, and has achieved many professional accomplishments. However, in the early years of her acting career, she struggled with substance abuse, suicide attempts, and stints in rehab. She currently feels resentment toward her mother for the hardships she endured.

The child star experienced a traumatic childhood after her parents divorced in 1984 when she was only nine years old. Only five years later, she was emancipated. In the midst of these challenging events, her godfather, Steven Spielberg, helped her score a major role in the iconic film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Well, this week, the very famous face shocked a lot of fans when she said that she “cannot wait” for her mom to pass away.

Vulture carried an interview story about Drew Barrymore. The interviewer shifted their focus toward her relationship with her mother, Jaid. In the surprising revelations that ensued, the actress expressed her intense unhappiness with her mother. In fact, she openly admitted that she was counting down the days to her mother’s demise. Additionally, she talked about how some of her friends’ mothers are already “gone,” while she has not had “that luxury.” Her harsh comments provoked a storm of conversation when Page Six shared about it on Instagram.

Drew Barrymore, some folks feel should have never said what she did.  One critic wrote, “Regardless of how her upbringing was, that’s an awful statement to make. I never had the best relationship with my mother, but I would never wish that or be happy when it happens.”

Another one said, “Just cause you think it, doesn’t mean you should say it. ?.”

But, some people can empathize. A commenter wrote, “I feel the same way. It’s not from a place of hate. It will just be lighter when she is gone. If you know, you know. If you don’t, try not to judge us. You are coming from a place of the relationship YOU had with your parents”
