Maggie is an alcoholic and for the most part, she has remained sober in recent years. But she still attends AA meetings regularly and has helped both Lucas Horton ( Bryan Datillo) and Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) through their own struggles with addiction.
She also saw the good in Xander Cook (Paul Tefler) and encouraged him to be a better man to some success.
There have been time when Maggie needed support as well, especially when she mistakenly believed she drove drunk and caused her daughter Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) to lose her baby as well as the death of Adrienne Kiriakis (Judi Evans).
Maggie went to prison but the guilt was still eating at her and she attempted suicide. Luckily, she was saved and set free when the real culprit was discovered.
Maggie has watched over the years as Victor ran Titan Industries. He retired from daily business years ago but still had final say over important decisions. Most notable he could hire and fire the CEO at a whim.
Several of Victor’s heirs have tried their hand at running the company only to be fired if they disappointed Victor one way or another.
Recently, he almost gave the position to Alex Kiriakis (Robert Scott Wilson) but changed his mind at the last minute when Alex became embroiled in a scandal. Shocking everyone, Victor named Maggie as CEO.
Maggie seem to be taking a page from Victor’s playbook and taken on a more ruthless streak, especially when it comes to Titan.
She has made it clear to Alex that if he didn’t do what he was told, she would fire him. And she did just that. She has also had angry confrontations with Brady. But what is truly the reason for Maggie’s new behavior.
While it could just be the stress of her new position perhaps it goes deeper than that. Victor has been growing weaker for quite awhile and will soon pass away.
Maggie knows that so perhaps she is trying to keep Victor alive in some way by becoming more like him. But Victor loved Maggie because of who she is and he wouldn’t want her to change that. In the coming weeks and months looks for Maggie to finally accept Victor’s fate.
What is behind Maggie’s personality change? Does she know something about Victor’s health? Who will help her come to terms with Victor’s impending death?
