Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) faces both news reports and rumors that the dance competition has considered delaying its premiere this month. However, ABC has now responded to those reports and gossip.
Find out what the network shared about the Dancing With The Stars rumors. And learn how the Hollywood 2023 Writers Strike threatens to delay DWTS this year.
ABC has denied a report that the network plans to postpone the premiere of Dancing With The Stars this year. Rumors and news reports had claimed that ABC would delay the dance competition show due to the 2023 Writers Guild Of America (WGA) strike. But now the network has informed the New York Post that it did not yet confirm or deny plans to postpone the premiere.
But the rumors and reports continue to soar after a celebrity contestant on Dancing With The Stars, former Veep star Matt Walsh, quit the dance competition to protest continuing amid the Hollywood 2023 Writers’ Strike. And he stated, “I am taking a pause from ‘Dancing with the Stars’ until an agreement is made with the WGA.”
However, the former Veep actor then explained why he initially joined Dancing With The Stars and why he stopped his participation. And Walsh, who was partnered with dance pro Koko Iwasaki, used his rep to tell USA Today that he walked out of a rehearsal last week to protest the show continuing amid the 2023 Hollywood Writers strike.
Walsh clarified via his rep, Samantha Srinivasan that he initially felt “excited to join the show.” But Walsh “did so under the impression that it was not a WGA show and fell under a different agreement. This morning when I was informed by my union, the WGA, that it is considered struck work I walked out of my rehearsal,” he shared.
However, the departure of the former Veep actor sparked rumors that other Dancing With The Stars celebrity contestants have considered quitting. Meanwhile, the SAG-AFTRA actors’ union, which joined the WGA strike in July, supports the stars who have decided to continue Dancing With The Stars this season.
And SAG-AFTRA stated, “We support them in fulfilling their contractual obligations.” Dancing With The Stars celebrity line-up this season includes American Pie star Alyson Hannigan, Britney Spears’ sister Jamie Lynn, Barry Williams, also known as Greg from The Brady Bunch; actress Mira Sorvino, Vanderpump Rules star Ariana Madix, and Xochitl Gomez, who appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
