The whole TLC presentation of the family on TLC was actually about shiny, happy people. For years, people saw them as loving, forgiving, dedicated, and loyal folks in a nasty world of sin and falling values. Well, the Amazon docuseries shredded that perception. However, deep down, a lot of fans were aware of some worrying things. Like, the young kids being surrogate parents to their siblings, and the whispers about blanket training. But they carried on watching the TLC show anyway.
Counting On Fans started becoming more aware that things were not perfect after Jill and Derick left the show. He was outspoken and claimed that they were not paid for their appearances. As time went by, he became more vocal about it. And, when Josh Duggar’s evidence was being examined, he and Jill talked about how Jim Bob treated Derick’s wife badly just for having a nose ring. Now others confirmed that life was hard for the kids, TLC fans are starting to regret supporting the show.
On social media, there are a lot of folks starting to wonder how come TLC continued supporting the Duggars. And, not just because of Josh and his molestation of his sisters, Many of them now see the show with new eyes. Some of them wonder because surely the crew who filmed the family must have noticed something was off.
Others who watched Counting On now question how they themselves played a part in keeping the shows alive. The discussions came when Jill Dillard shared a photo of herself with Derick this week. In her caption, she said, “☀️I’m so incredibly grateful for my man @derickdillard ❤️ His support means the world to me.” In the comments, some fans discussed their feelings of guilt.
Counting On fans who now know more about the family expressed their guilty feelings. Here is a small sample of what they said:
megrr1010: Shiny happy people was so eye opening, and I hate that I was one of millions of viewers of __ and Counting that kept that that show going. I’m so sorry for what you and so many other victims of cult culture have had to endure. Good for you for coming out with the truth. I wish the best for you, and I can’t wait to read this book!
ohgee10: I feel the same exact way. Child exploitation at its finest. I feel guilty i contributed by watching. I hope they all find peace and our world ends this type of suffering.
paupi4: i felt so much guilt watching it, thinking how I loved the duggars and the show.
debbie.murphy.167189: I feel the absolute same i have deleted all there (sic) YouTube channels and Instagram.”
Regrets won’t change what happened to Jill Dillard and her siblings. As another follower pointed out, now that fans know what happened, they can try and support the other kids as well. After all, it’s not their fault that they endured things like blanket training. What are your thoughts? Shout out in the comments below.
