Counting On: Duggar Family Boycotts Gay Uncle Tommy’s Funeral?

Counting On fans heard at the end of June, that Tommy Lester, a secret uncle of Jim Bob Duggar had passed away. He was gay and married to a same-sex partner. Surprisingly, it seemed that Ben Seewald would officiate at the funeral for the brother of the late Grandma Mary. But now, it seems that he might not have done that. Actually, there were reportedly none of the Duggar family present.

Counting On: Ben Seewald To Do Tommy Lester’s Funeral?

TLC fans were surprised to even hear that Jim Bob had an uncle named Tommy. Everyone knew that Mary was his mom. But, who knew about Tommy, her brother? Well, Amy King did mention him after Tommy passed away. Ben Seewald is a pastor, and the husband of Jessa Duggar was rumored to be the one to hold the funeral for Tommy who passed away after collapsing in his bathroom.

Apparently, Ben wasn’t there for people to pay their last respects to Tommy, the husband of Lawrence Nestrud. But even if he had been there, it seems that the rest of the Counting On clam wouldn’t attend, anyway. The first inkling that there was a death in the family came on June 28, when the cops paid a visit to Jim Bob’s compound. Later, it turned out that they notified the Duggar patriarch that Uncle Tommy had passed away.

Counting On: Boycotting Gay Uncle Tommy?

TLC fans were surprised to hear rumors and leaks that the Duggar family would attend the funeral of their gay relative in Fayetteville, Arkansas. After all, the super-religious family thinks that gays are some sort of abomination. It’s no secret that Michelle Duggar disapproves of proposed transexual bathroom laws. Those who thought the family probably wouldn’t attend were right on the nail.

The Sun reported that the Counting On family was nowhere to be seen during the burial of their not-so-dearly departed uncle. The outlet explained, “Around 20 loved ones, including Tommy’s husband, Lawrence Nestrud, were in attendance for the funeral.” As he was formerly in the Navy, there was at least “a 21-gun salute.” The former veteran of the Vietnam War was seemingly forgotten by the ultra-religious clan. Perhaps Jim Bob said a little prayer for Uncle Tommy in his closet.

Estranged Famly Member

The Counting On family was apparently estranged from Tommy, and it seems standard for the family to distance themselves from those in the LGBT community. From the outside looking in, it seems that he simply didn’t exist. Maybe they believe that Jesus will grant them some kudos for allegedly not bothering to appear at the funeral of Mary Duggar’s brother.
