CBS Increases Air Time For Two Major Reality Shows

Fans of both the long running reality tv series Survivor and The Amazing Race will be excited to learn that come this fall the CBS shows will be each be seeing more air time. As the writer’s strike is set to throw a wrench in a number of shows futures, delaying their return or even causing networks to scrap certain shows all together, CBS is covering all their bases.
CBS – Survivor and The Amazing Race To Air 90 Minute Episodes
The network plans to extend both Survivor and The Amazing Race by 30 minutes, bringing each episode to 90 minutes. Survivor will run from 8 – 9:30 ET while the Amazing Race will run from 9:30 – 11 ET all season long.
CBS is making the movie to increase both reality shows’ airtime after somewhat testing the waters. Both shows have featured 90 minute season previews and back to back episodes in the past.
The extra air time for both was embraced by fans, proving to CBS that 90 -120 minutes of the fan favorites is what viewers are looking for.
CBS – The Amazing Race Season 35 To Return This Fall
The Amazing Race will return this fall, airing its 35th season. Filming on the upcoming season has already been completed as of November of last year.
Phil Keoghan will return as the host with the show kicking off the season in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The cast has yet to be announced.
CBS – Survivor Season 45 To Wrap Filming Soon
As for Survivor, the reality showily return with Host Jeff Probst who has been a strong advocate for 90 minute episodes for quite sometime. “I actually think 90 minutes is a great length for a Survivor episode.
It means basically 63 minutes of total running time, and that’s similar to what you would find on a streaming service,” Probst shared last year.

Probst went on to add, “Fortunately, we have an incredibly tight relationship with CBS, and that allows us to talk candidly about stuff like this and do what is best for the show.”
