Brandon Sklenar Confirms Yellowstone Prequel 1923 Ends With Season 2

As Yellowstone fans await season 2 of the prequel series, 1923, one of its stars, Brandon Sklenar, has confirmed it will be the last. The series tells the story of the Dutton ancestors and is set one century before the events of the hit modern Western series. Meanwhile, the show focuses on Jacob and Cara Dutton, played by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren.

The prequel series, 1923, is set in a tumultuous period in American history, including the end of Prohibition, the Great Depression and Western expansion. Meanwhile, the show truly tests the Duttons’ resilience as they lead their lives in earlier Montana.

Of course, the show has always been intended as a limited series with only two seasons, rumors have been doing the rounds that it might be extended. Despite the rumors, and hope expressed by fans, Brandon Sklenar, who plays Spencer Dutton, has confirmed that the prequel will end with season 2.

Sklenar appeared on a recent cast panel with The Hollywood Reporter where he was asked about possible future seasons of 1923.  Meanwhile, the actor replied, saying, “it’s bookend,” making it clear that the ending of the show was planned from the start. He said:

No, no, it’s bookend. It’s still limited, but I think of it as one piece – there’s just a split in the middle, but it’s all one piece. It will conclude.

Who stars in the Yellowstone prequel?

With talk of Yellowstone coming to an end with season 5, fans were hoping that the prequel would continue longer due to its impressive cast. Besides Hollywood greats Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, 1923 features an impressive cast. In fact, it stars Sebastian Roché, Jerome Flynn, James Badge Dale, Darren Mann, Marley Shelton, Michelle Randolph, Brian Geraghty, Julia Schlaepfer, Aminah Nieves, Robert Patrick, Timothy Dalton and Jennifer Ehle.

Naturally, the Yellowstone prequel was created by Yellowstone giant Taylor Sheridan, as his epic Dutton family tree continues to grow.

What to expect from season 2 of 1923?

Meanwhile, Sklenar recently opened up about the second season of the Yellowstone spinoff. He told Movieweb that he believes Spencer and Alex have an even bumpier road as they head out to travel to the Dutton family home in Montana. Fans will recall that even though Spencer and Alex recently married, there’s no time to enjoy a honeymoon, especially after they barely survived the shipwreck. Other than that, few spoilers are out relating to the second season of the Yellowstone prequel.
