Big Brother Julie Chen Moonves Talks “Chenbot” Nickname & If Criticisms Still Bother Her

Big Brother (BB) host Julie Chen Moonves recently talked with E! News about whether the harsh criticisms she received over the years still bother her.

On the cusp of hosting BB’s 25th season, Chen Moonves reflects on the ups and downs of being with the reality series since 2000. She earned the “Chenbot” nickname because of her need to be a credible and professional host, after all, her work beginnings were at CBS News; however, does the term still upset her?

Big Brother Spoilers – “They Hated Me In The Beginning” …

While Julie is a beloved host to fans now, Chen Moonves states that this wasn’t always the case. She notes that they (BB fans) “hated me at the beginning”, and that “Chenbot” was created as an insult. She goes on to say that someone placed a montage of all her episodes with her catchphrase, “but first”, and related her to a robot, which is apparently how the infamous nickname started.

Julie admits that the harsh feedback and Chenbot “stung” at first; however, upon reflecting on it, she realized that the fan had a point, and it was kind of funny. She notes, now she “embraces” her inner Chenbot, and it makes her laugh now when she thinks of it.

The good news is that over the years, “Chenbot” has become a term of endearment more than anything insulting. Julie also notes that it’s a reminder that she shouldn’t take herself so seriously. During her tenure at BB, Chen Moonves has loosened up considerably and is a shadow of her earlier “robotic” self. She now balances some humor with “seriousness” when it comes to conducting interviews with houseguests and overall BB hosting duties.

Julie views this next 25th season as quite the milestone and feels incredible joy and pride as she reaches an amazing achievement with Big Brother.
