The Bold and the Beautiful (B&B) spoilers document that Douglas Forrester’s (Henry Joseph Samiri) has been in flux since his mother tragically died. Further change is in the wind, as his parents disagree about custody issues.

Douglas’ biological mother’s, Caroline Spencer (Linsey Godfrey), passing caused Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) to move from New York back to California four years ago. Hope Spencer (Annika Noelle) became Thomas’ obsession and choice for his son’s replacement mother.

Thomas’ intentions then and now are as calculated as they appear. Hope finally had enough and is refusing to work with Thomas at Forrester Creations. Thomas is pursuing custody as a result.

Biological connections only go so far with some judges. Subjective interpretations of reality mean that Thomas’ genetic connection may not hold sway with Judge Gomez (Jill Remez), who will have to decide how the loose, legal arrangement benefited Douglas.

Hope did not give birth to Douglas. She did agree to adopt him after they bonded following his move home.

It was Thomas’ plan for Hope to be part of Douglas’ life. Atkinson’s character believed his odds of forging a bond with Hope would increase. That did not happen.

Children need stability. Thomas’ actions, in wanting Hope to take over for Caroline on this earth, was his way of stabilizing his son’s life.

Interestingly, what Thomas hoped to achieve may undercut or stop him from securing the level of custody he feels is right. Hope and her husband, Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton), have provided Douglas with a traditional two-parent home.

There are plenty of opinions, including ones Thomas may offer, would claim a mother and father’s influence is not measurable. But the judge is teased to ask Douglas for his take.

Douglas has consistently expressed more wisdom than his father. Thomas’ mental health issues clearly impact his ability to be an effective father.

There is no doubt that Thomas believes he wants the best for his only child. But his actions, across the past four years, repeatedly proved that he does not deliver.

Hope and Liam provide the family structure Douglas needs. He seems to enjoy living with them and their daughter, Beth Spencer (Jordyn Lynn Ariza). Fans will soon know what Douglas also thinks of his father on B&B.
