Ahead of the much-anticipated finale episode of Silo season 1, Apple TV+ has announced the renewal for season 2. The new dystopian sci-fi show is based on the trilogy of novels by author Hugh Howey and was brought to the small screen by Graham Yost.

The series stars Rebecca Ferguson as an engineer, trying to learn the truth behind the massive Silo that houses the remnants of humanity. They have been living here since the world above became toxic to life. Meanwhile, as with most of the Apple TV+ sci-fi series, Silo has attracted strong reviews from audiences and critics alike.

About season 2 of the Apple TV+ series

According to Apple, season 2 is set to further explore the world of Silo. Currently, season 1 has three more episodes to air, with episode 8 available later this week. It had a total of 10 episodes, but it is unclear whether season 2 will have the same.

Screenrant quotes Yost’s comment about the renewal as follows:

We cannot wait for audiences around the world to immerse themselves in the epic world we have created to bring Hugh Howey’s novels to life. Apple has believed in our vision from day one and it’s an honor to have the opportunity to dig deeper into this story and peel back the layers to our characters in the Silo.

Questions remaining in season 1

While Silo has been renewed for a second season, there are still several questions outstanding relating to season 1. Naturally, the major mystery relates to the outside world and what caused it to become toxic. Meanwhile, early in season 1, viewers got a glimpse of the “real” world, which didn’t look as bleak as it does on the viewing screens in the silo itself. However, the possible deaths of Allison (Rashida Jones) and Holston (David Oyelowo) suggest that it may be toxic indeed.

Moreover, the remaining episodes of season 1 could possibly reveal more about Judicial and how much the overseeing body knows but is not sharing. Meanwhile, Juliette (Ferguson) is getting closer to discovering the truth about George’s (Ferdinand Kingsley) death. However, it is unlikely that there will be much closure by the time the season 1 finale airs. It is also unclear how season 2 will continue the story, but at least fans know that Silo will return for more exciting episodes.
