Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has added yet another A-lister to the cast of the spinoff Bass Reeves. In fact, none other than Honorary Oscar recipient Donald Sutherland is joining the series. In the meanwhile, the show has also got itself a new name. While it was previously titled Bass Reeves, it will now bear the title Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
You have to hand it to Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan as he attracts yet another A-Lister, Hollywood star to the cast of the latest spinoff, Bass Reeves. Having already nabbed Kevin Costner for the original show, and stars like Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford for 1883, it seems more are to come.
The latest Western series tells the story of real-life frontier hero, Bass Reeves, while the show gets a different format, with the title Lawmen: Bass Reeves. According to showrunner Chad Feehan, the project will now be an anthology series about famous lawmen that changed the history of the West. The upcoming show will still be about Bass Reeves, of course, but fans can look forward to more fascinating tales in upcoming seasons.
Donald Sutherland is set to play Judge Isaac Parker, whom the Hollywood Reporter describes as “an imposing and commanding judge in the Fort Smith Courthouse with a complicated legacy.”
Meanwhile, Emmy nominee David Oyelowo plays Bass Reeves, the first Back deputy US marshal west of the Mississippi River. Reeves is described as “the greatest frontier hero in American history [who] worked in the post-Reconstruction era as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory, capturing over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without ever being wounded.”
Besides Oyelowo and Sutherland, the series stars regulars, including Lauren E. Banks, Barry Pepper, Forrest Goodluck and Demi Singleton. Meanwhile, actors in recurring roles include Dennis Quaid, Lonnie Chavis, Joaquina Kalukango, Rob Morgan, Ryan O’Nan, Grantham Coleman and Justin Hurtt-Dunkley. Meanwhile, guest stars include Garrett Hedlund and Shea Whigham.
The Lawmen series joins the ever-growing list of Western dramas emanating from the flagship series, Yellowstone. So far, fans have enjoyed the Paramount+ prequels 1883 and 1923. Meanwhile, it’s hard to keep up with Taylor Sheridan, who has also released Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, along with the new upcoming series, Lioness and Land Man.
The list of prequels helps to keep fans entertained while they wait anxiously for part 2 or season 5 of Yellowstone which was supposed to air this summer but has been delayed.
