90 Day Fiancé Star Yara Has No Regrets About Taking Birth Control Behind Jovi’s Back

Speaking at the recent TLC red carpet event, Yara Zaya and Jovi Dufren spoke about their appearance on 90 Day: The Last Resort. Meanwhile, Yara was asked if she regrets secretly taking birth control behind her husband Jovi’s back. The couple also opened up about talking about sex on the latest 90 Day Fiancé spinoff.

90 Day Fiancé star Yara on secretly taking birth control

Back in August, Yara Zaya revealed in an episode of 90 Day: The Last Resort that she had been taking birth control behind Jovi’s back. Meanwhile, he truly wants to have a second child. Fans will recall that the couple welcomed their daughter, Mylah, 3, in 2020, seven months after getting married.

Speaking on the red carpet on September 26, Yara said she didn’t regret secretly taking birth control “because it was in the right place.”  She added, “Mylah, my child, wasn’t with us, so I don’t regret it.”

However, Jovi, revealed that he is still “not OK” about Yara’s choice to take birth control, saying:

I think she should have talked to me first, but it’s not a deal breaker for me. It’s not so bad. I just wish that when she has that kind of problem, she can talk to me about it first and we can decide together.

Therapy has a positive impact

While Jovi wasn’t happy with Yara confessing about taking birth control in a group therapy session, he does appreciate the positive impact the therapy is having on their relationship.

“Talking to the therapist and understanding more about our relationships now, I think it did a good thing for us,” Jovi shared.

Meanwhile, 90 Day: The Last Resort has featured truly eye-opening, and sometimes shocking, details of the various couples’ relationships. However, Jovi was asked about opening up in group therapy sessions at the luxury resort. When asked how comfortable he was about discussing their sex life, this didn’t bother him. Jovi said:

Talking about having another baby and all this other stuff is a lot more tense, I guess you can say. So, talking about the sex stuff is like, ‘OK, it’s awkward a little bit, but it’s not that stressful.

However, Yara disagreed with Jovi, speaking of cultural differences between discussing sex in the US versus Europe. She explained that for many European women, it can be hard and shameful to wear lingerie, but that it is fine to take a photo in a swimsuit. Yara added:

So, it was hard, a little bit, and awkward here and there, but I [was] open to it. And in Last Resort, I also realized how many kind[s] of conflicts and trauma I have.

However, since filming 90 Day: The Last Resort, life has been good for Yara and Jovi. He explained that it made them realize they had a lot of problems that they didn’t realize about. He added that they needed to work on their communication and talk about things they have been putting off.

“Now we found the right patch to move [in] the right direction, for sure,” Yara said.
