90 Day Fiancé Star Mahmoud Challenged By Nicole’s New Egyptian Friend

After previously being told that 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way star Nicole cannot have friends in Egypt, she has found one anyway. Now, Mahmoud is not happy about her friend, Nouran, who challenges his strict Muslim beliefs. Will Nicole now be happy to have a good friend, or will Mahmoud somehow push Nouran away?

90 Day Fiancé star Nicole finds an Egyptian BFF

90 Day Fiancé fans will recall that earlier this season, Mahmoud’s family told Nicole she doesn’t need friends and that family are her friends. Clearly, this is difficult for a sociable woman, and finally, she has found one. In fact, her new BFF is a modern Egyptian woman.

Sunday’s episode revealed Nicole’s new friend, Nouran, as she challenged Mahmoud’s beliefs on modesty and trust. She even told him that his faith and views on women are “stereotypical.”

How did Nicole and Nouran meet?

It was in a meditation class that the American native met the modern Egyptian woman, Nouran. In fact she invited her to meet Mahmoud, as he has insisted he meet anyone with whom she is spending time. Needless to say, the meeting was a major disaster, with Mahmoud feeling challenged by Nouran.

As with Nicole, her new BFF doesn’t wear a hijab or wear concealing clothes, both of which have caused problems with Mahmoud. Meanwhile, Sunday’s episode revealed the meeting starting badly when Nouran said she found it “a bit weird” that Mahmoud needed to meet her. She said:

My impression about Mahmoud is he’s very stereotypical. The typical Egyptian man, he feels safe in this [modesty] zone and feels like there’s threat outside of this zone because he doesn’t know anything else.

Obviously, the conversation turned to religion. In fact, Mahmoud explained to Nouran that his religious beliefs made it inappropriate for Nicole to attend a coed yoga class.

“I’m not going to feel comfortable if she stretch[es] around men,” he said, adding, “I don’t want to be a rude person. You can do that, but I don’t like it – any man look to my wife when she stretch.”

Meanwhile, Nouran pointed out that the men would be there to practice yoga, not to stare at women, saying:

So now you’re blaming the wrongdoings of men on Nicole, or on women? Because men are looking and staring and fantasizing, then women should accommodate to that?

For his part, Mahmoud explained that their relationship is haram [forbidden] if Nicole does that around other people.

Mahmoud and Nouran on the Quran

As the conversation continued, it was clear that Nouran and Mahmoud had wildly different interpretations of the Quran. Speaking of the clothing aspect, Nicole’s friend argued that the religious text doesn’t insist on a woman wearing a hijab. However, Mahmoud’s interpretation is completely different.

Meanwhile, as Mahmoud and Nouran continued speaking, Nicole hung back, except for offering Mahmoud support a couple of times. In fact, she told the cameras how “proud” she was of her husband sticking up for his beliefs.

Nicole stayed primarily out of the conversation, though she did jump in to support Mahmoud a few times. At the end of the coffee meeting, Nicole told cameras she was “proud” of her husband for standing up for his beliefs, saying:

She’s a strong woman, and I was actually really proud of my husband. He didn’t storm off and be mad, he just told it like he knows it and never wavered from who he is, which is really standard Mahmoud.

However, Nicole did add that she is worried things will never change and that she needs things to change to be happy in Egypt. As for Mahmoud, he told the cameras that Nouran is like the worst girl he has ever met in his life, adding, “If you’re Muslim, you have to take all rules. I hate people that take the parts you like and lose what you hate.”
