Sunday’s episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days sees David meeting Sheila for the first time in the Philippines. His first hours have him fearful of the traffic and also panicking over his new environment, which is the polar opposite of home. Readers will recall that David is deaf, so crazy traffic, his first restaurant and generally everything around him makes him struggle away from the USA.
90 Day Fiancé star David hit by culture shock
While David was thrilled to meet Sheila in the Philippines, everything else about his experience has him fearful and confused. Some of the confusion is likely due to his lack of hearing, but mostly it is due to the fact that everything is so different from his life back home.
After they met at the airport, Sheila and David were stuck in heavy traffic as they headed into the city. This is where David first started panicking. In a confessional, he told the cameras in American Sign Language, “I didn’t want to hit anyone,” adding, “It was really scary. I was panicked.”

Meanwhile, it seemed the panic wasn’t going away, as they headed into a restaurant to have dinner. David was not impressed by the sanitary conditions in the restaurant. However, it got even worse when he asked to use the bathroom and found out the facilities were broken. If that wasn’t bad enough, it got worse when Sheila led him outside, directing him to a corner outside the building where he could pee, in public.
Talking to the cameras again, David said this wasn’t how he pictured their first day together, saying, “Yes, it’s embarrassing. But it was an emergency. I did finally get to go pee. Pooping was another story.”
David and Sheila arrive at the hotel
After a stressful start to their meeting, David and Sheila finally arrive at the hotel, where he pushed the two twin beds together. However, as he did so, he got another couple of shocks. One was a crumbling wall, while the other was some kind of insect, which David dispatched with his foot.
However, despite the bad start to their meeting and David’s culture shock, snuggling up with Sheila seemed to ease the panic. At that time, it seemed his stress was worth it as he got up close and personal with the woman he loves.
