1923 Star Helen Mirren Gushes Over Butte Walmart With Kelly Clarkson

While filming the Yellowstone prequel, 1923, British actress Helen Mirren got to know a local Walmart well.

According to 1923 star Helen Mirren, she knows a Montana Walmart “like the back of my hand.” The British actress was appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show when the subject came up. Meanwhile, it’s worth knowing that should you shop in the Walmart in Butte, you could run into some of your favorite stars of Yellowstone and its prequels.

While recently appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, 1923 star Helen Mirren, 77, mentioned that she shops at a Walmart in Butte, Montana. However, it is interesting to note that Kelly Clarkson also shops at that particular branch. It turns out Clarkson lives on a Montana ranch, located “higher up in the mountains.”

While Mirren, 77, spends time in Butte temporarily to film the Paramount+ series, Clarkson lives on a Montana ranch about an hour “higher up in the mountains.” Kelly said there is one store in Butte, so she loves the fact that Dame Helen had visited there.

Meanwhile, Clarkson did note that while she is around an hour’s drive from the Butte Walmart, it is the closest store to her ranch. She explained that she goes there to get groceries because the place where she lives is “super remote.” In fact, Kelly said that’s where she drives to buy milk.

Helen was quick to note that she uses the same store, telling Kelly, “I know that Walmart well. I know it like the back of my hand.”

This led Kelly to get excited over her shared shopping experience with Helen. She said, “I just love that you’ve walked the aisles of that Walmart,” adding, “It’s just out of pocket for me.”

Naturally, the show wasn’t just about Walmart, as Clarkson applauded the way 1923 and Mirren is representing immigration stories in the western TV show. Meanwhile, Helen noted that Butte has this “amazing history” as an old mining town. She explained to Kelly that if you look at the history of the town, there were people from Moldavia, Wales, Scotland and Ireland there, as well as people from the Basque region. Mirren added:

So, that’s what the West was like — all of these different accents and cultures.

Meanwhile, due to the town’s history, the actress plays her character, Cara Dutton, as an Irish woman. So far, there has been one season of the Yellowstone prequel 1923 which can be streamed on Paramount+. However, the show has already been renewed for a second season.
