Instead, she chose to handle the problem she let into her life and the family business independently. Victor fully approved of the bluntness of that resolution and is prepared to fight the Lockeness Monster with her and most of the Newman family.
The holdout is Victor’s third-born child. Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) is under Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and above Abby Newman Abbott Chancellor (Melissa Ordway) in the offspring line. But Grossman’s character has felt like the outsider since he first came to Genoa City, Wisconsin, as a SORAS’d adult (soap opera rapid aging syndrome).
Adam has been married, and he has children. But it is reasonable to assert that he never grew up.
Chris Engen (Adam) was the first adult actor to portray this character. That took place fourteen years ago in real-time. Since then, two other actors, Michael Muhney (Adam) and Justin Hartley (Adam) portrayed Victor’s second namesake, Victor Adam Newman Junior.
The recast to Grossman in 2019 reversed SORAS’d the character by approximately a decade. That analysis is based on various dialogue references regarding Adam’s birth on the show and the difference between Hartley’s birth year (1977) and Grossman’s (1987). Today’s Adam is again proving that time has not allowed maturity.
It is reasonable to offer a logical counter in defense of Adam’s reaction to Victoria’s reveal about taking down Ashland. Heinle’s character fell in love, and that is what caused Newman Enterprises to merge with the Locke Communications Group. That plot point is not debatable or contested.
In response, The Young and the Restless spoilers show Victor initially backs Ashland based on the belief that he loved Victoria. Adam went along with Ashland as well because he thought the man was good for business.
Adam remained loyal to Victor during the period when Victoria was Chief Executive Officer and while Grossman and Braeden’s characters were running Newman Media. Then, when the soap hit the fan and Ashland’s cancer lie was revealed, Victor sought to protect his daughter. Adam believed that was a slight.
Victor demonstrated that he is willing to forgive Victoria’s egregious business mistake. But Adam seems to forget that Victor forgave him for wanting to physically destroy Newman Towers while the family members he lured into the executive suite were in it.
Victoria is older, wiser, as reinforced by her measured response to Ashland, and more experienced than Adam. But Adam is set in his belief that he is the better CEO choice.
It appears that Adam, believing he was denied a chance to prove his worth, is planning to attack his family again. Victor’s belief in family unity and Adam’s compliance will naturally lead to another contentious Newman battle on Y&R.
