When Sally was first involved with Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) everything went so fast they didn’t know what to call it; it took one handshake to drive them to bed. Nick hadn’t been with anyone for a long time while Sally was still feeling rejection from Adam Newman, (Mark Grossman) whose breakup blindsided her. Yet she knew that Adam had been in another conflict with his father Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) and the rest of his family and dumped her to save her job.
Sally told Nick they needed to slow it down and perhaps just go back to a professional relationship, and Nick understood-being hurt can cause someone a fear of commitment. Even when they were hot and heavy she couldn’t define it, calling it a “situationship” and he agreed to give her space to heal from Adam first.
Sally is depressed as she packs up her desk at Newman Media, knowing that Nick tried hard to save her job; and Adam also found out and said it wasn’t fair. Adam was looking for Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) but offered her and Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson) to come to Jabot and Marchetti, but she declined. Now she gets two more visitors, Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) who tells her to step it up because her replacement, Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) needs her office. It seems obvious that Victoria wants to rub her failure in her face, although both brothers, Adam and Nick had only glowing reports of her prowess. Sally completes her move from the office and heads over to Crimson Lights, where she runs into Nick.
It’s not unusual for Nick to be at Crimson Lights, sometimes he even pitches in if his ex-wife and mother of his daughter Faith Newman (Reylynn Caster) needs help. Sally does her best not to let her deep disappointment show because she’s trying to maintain her dignity; crying like a little girl certainly won’t help her optics. But Nick can tell something’s very wrong and senses his sometimes insensitive sister has struck again and really knocked Sally off her moorings.
Nick and Sally talk about the events at work and their “situationship” comes up in conversation as well. He’s not going to rush her into a decision between him and Adam and won’t compete with him-he’s surprised when she says she knows who she’s going to choose.
Of course Nick is going to wonder who she says she’s chosen but if she chooses him, he wants it to be for the right reasons. He certainly doesn’t want to be her choice because he outsmarted Adam. Both brothers have looked out for Sally, each in their individual ways, but it’s a real pickle for two who finally had a semblance of a bond. Sally no doubt understands this too, and neither brother thought it right for Victoria to fire Sally in favor of Nate. It may be a surprise for viewers as well as the Newman brothers who she actually chooses to be with.
