TPTB wrote Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) and Phyllis into a meaningful scene that provided the audience with Daniel’s off-screen backstory and nostalgia. A concurrent scene with Christine Williams (Lauralee Bell) showed her reminiscing about the drama she experienced with Danny during Y&R’s heydays.

The site of Phyllis and Danny consoling their son was proof-positive that Stafford’s character is capable of redeeming herself. As Phyllis and Danny’s walkaway conversation confirmed, Damian’s character regretted keeping Daniel from Phyllis for an extended period of time.

Phyllis lamented the part she played in forcing Danny to take action against her. However, they both complimented each other for their combined efforts in raising a good son.

So, the counterbalance of Phyllis losing what was a solid relationship with Summer against her revived connection with Daniel was huge. Graziadei’s character knows that his mom needs support, and he also wants hers.

Lily resisted being with Billy. While he was attracted to her, she feared his checkered relationship history that included Phyllis.

Billy still loves Lily and does not recognize that the support he is offering Chelsea Lawson (Melissa Claire Egan) is dangerous. He is not overtly pursuing her but has become emotionally involved in her life.

Khalil’s character sees multiple plot points ahead and knows that Billy is vulnerable. Chelsea is not the real issue. Instead, it is Billy’s pattern of self-sabotage, making Daniel, Lily’s first husband, a realistic return-to option on Y&R.
