Billy did not feel like he was a part of Chancellor-Winters after the merger. But his podcast efforts helped him to gain a sense of belonging, and he heeded Lily’s advice and is solely working on his main CW projects.
Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) exhibited great enthusiasm for his new, intended profession switch. But building conflicts with Devon Hamilton (Bryton James), due to a persistent grudge, appear to extinguish Nate’s desire to work with family. No matter what Nate believes, Devon is a co-owner and boss.
Nate is foolishly allowing himself to be guided by Imani Benedict (currently played by Leigh Ann Rose’s stand-in, Denise Boutte). She is not interested in advancing Nate’s career.
Imani took an instant liking to Nate the moment she first spotted him. Respect for his relationship with Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) was non-existent, often exhibited by snarky comments and outright condescension.
Nate has allowed Imani to pump up his ego because she plays into his bruised ego. More importantly, he is allowing Imani to be disrespectful of Elena. That plot point continues to create doubt in Elena’s mind about Nate’s intentions.
Billy did not plan to revisit his one-time childhood connection to Lily. But that long-ago link allowed both characters to reconnect and develop what has become a serious relationship.
Lily serves as a positive balance for Billy. While Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) always loved Billy and still values his role as their children’s father, she could not relate to him as anything more than a problem child.
Billy has stabilized his life to an arguably greater degree than at any past point. His recent shutdown of Chelsea Lawson’s (Melissa Claire Egan) kiss and immediate information relay to Lily reaffirmed that Billy is committed to the maturity he has achieved.
In the recent past, Lily’s marriage to Cane Ashby (Daniel Goddard) was falling apart, and she was sentenced to what became short prison stint. Lily used her experience, meaning the accident that killed Hilary Hamilton (Mishael Morgan) and the unborn baby (who was also Devon’s child), as a period of reassessment.
Lily’s exemplary work in serving as a prison mentor set the stage for what she has since realized. Her initial appointment as the head of Chancellor Industries, then to the co-head of CW, and the transition from being divorced to a committed relationship with Billy, reflect major success.
However, Lily recognizes that she needs to keep alert. And yes, that is a reference to when Lily tragically allowed herself to be distracted by Hilary when driving on that fateful day.
Running a major conglomerate with her brother is no easy task. Their combined skill and ability to not allow personal matters to divert their attention will prove key on Y&R.
