Y&R Spoilers: Indie Star Allison Lanier Cast As Summer Newman

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that the role of Summer Newman has been recast with Allison Lanier, just in time for May Sweeps. The actress will debut next month, and her onscreen husband Michael Mealor will return next week as Kyle Summer.

Two-time Daytime Emmy winner King, and Mealor, left the number one rated daytime drama last summer when contract talks came to a dead end. Lanier’s credits include the Amazon Prime series Red Oaks, the indie flicks Fish Bone and Mia, and in the comedy It Happened in L.A.

Skyle’s return comes just in time to confront the reality of Kyle’s mom Diane Jenkins (Susan Walters) coming back from the not so dead. Skyle are in Italy living their best life with his son Harrison, and their return to the Midwest could mean the end of la dolce vita.

Lanier’s turn on Y&R is her first daytime role. Turbulent Summer is the daughter of Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) and Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), the character debuted in 2006.

In 2012 Summer was SORAS’d and Hunter King took over the role of the petulant, indulged girl who stopped at nothing to get what she wanted.

Lately however her marriage to Kyle, role as stepmom to Harrison, and high powered Italian fashion world job seemed to have mellowed her somewhat. Maybe. We will find out soon.

Kyle and Summer will return to a world of chaos in Genoa City, Wisconsin. For two decades he thought his mom Diane was dead and cried himself to sleep every night. That kind of trauma won’t be easy to heal and he surely will have a ton of anger toward the mom who lied to him in such a dreadful way.
