Diane heads over to the Abbott house after being invited by Kyle, and is hoping for another heart-to-heart talk with her son, but what she gets is entirely something else! She sees not only Kyle, but a whole roomful of Abbotts, with Jack Abbott, (Peter Bergman) Ashley Abbott, (Eileen Davidson) Abby Newman Chancellor, (Melissa Ordway) and Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland)! Needless to say, she feels like she’s walked onto the set of “Intervention” except she doesn’t get the impression they’ve gathered to confront her for her own good!
Diane can tell she’s walking into a hostile environment, especially sensing vitriol from Ashley and Abby, but the look on the usually friendly Traci’s face isn’t a whole lot better! However, Traci does step up to remind the family that this is for Kyle, not for them.
Jack tells Diane that she should tell her story to the rest of the family, the same explanation she gave him and Kyle for her long absence. Jack isn’t super helpful but it’s a start, although when Diane tries to explain she’s been through therapy towards improving herself not everyone buys it! Ashley and Abby go so far as wanting proof, asking who the therapist is, how to contact him or her and wanting the therapist’s credentials! They also want to know if Diane is still in therapy currently and if she is going to continue! They are very suspicious of her and Diane won’t be surprised if Abby asks her husband to contact the Feds for an investigation of her spanning the whole time!
Diane feels like she’s in an interrogation room at the police department, but as badly as she has behaved and hurt the Abbotts in the past, she gets it. She has to be careful how she answers the family’s questions, because if she answers too quickly, she could be perceived as having rehearsed her answers. If she answers too slowly, she might be hiding something or else lying!
Ashley really crosses the line as far as Diane is concerned when she wants to know about her finances and where she’s getting her money! Diane is shocked, and wonders if the next thing she wants is a credit check – but she doesn’t run.
Diane knows that the worst thing she can do is run, because it will only make her look guilty; any hint of defensiveness will be taken the wrong way! She does tell them that she needs to go and she’s weary of answering questions for the time being, although she’ll be glad to answer more later. She manages to make a graceful exit and hopes she responded and acted in a manner that didn’t cause any more suspicions, although she knows the Abbotts have more questions. Diane’s main concern is Kyle, and what he thinks, the rest of them can just go blow!
