Diane told Phyllis she did not plan to stir the pot exactly as she had before. Phyllis believes her and told Jack so when she provided a Diane update at the Abbott mansion. But Phyllis also recognizes that Diane is taking a different approach to get what she wants.

Phyllis is sharp and loyal to Jack. She gets that Diane wants her to serve as an information source.

Diane must think that Phyllis will relay the message that all is well with her most intriguing resident. But Stafford’s character will not allow herself to be used.

Mother-in-law status is not something Phyllis ever anticipated sharing with Diane. But now that she is not dead, Phyllis knows her daughter’s life is tied to Diane’s son and grandson, with Summer Newman (Hunter King) serving as Harrison’s stepmother.

Jack trusts Phyllis. Together, they distrust Diane.

Verifying what Diane’s overall plan is will not be easy. Walters‘ character likely does not know how she will get from here to there. But make no mistake, the revived Diane will reclaim as much of her past life as is possible, plus aim for more.

Jack was Kyle’s only parent for many years. Now, Jack must share parental status with Diane again. That is the crux of Jack’s dilemma, as Diane has never consistently proven that she can handle life’s responsibilities.
