Diane appears to be benefitting by playing the role of a poor soul seeking redemption. Kyle Abbott’s (Michael Mealor) buy-in opened the daytime door to Diane choosing to remain in town.
Those who believe all will be reversed, and that Diane will be forced to leave GC in shame appear to be underestimating one of Y&R’s all-time great game players.
Nikki has chosen to form an alliance with two women she does not care for, Phyllis and Ashley Abbott (Eileen Davidson). That decision pools their spiteful resources.
Thomas Scott’s character was charged with Diane’s murder. That for a death that did not occur. Nikki’s husband, Victor Newman (Eric Braeden), has long loathed Diane, mostly because he was twice married to her.
Victor is Nikki’s greatest ally. But the Moustache is involved in the follow-up to another death hoax that involves Ashland Locke (Robert Newman). That distraction hurts Nikki’s chances of defeating Diane.
Jack Abbott (Peter Bergman) recently told Phyllis that she remains the woman he loves. He also said that Diane is not someone he could ever trust.
But Jack split from Phyllis after she badly overreacted to Diane’s presumed power. Walters’ character is tied to Jack through Kyle and Harrison Locke (Kellen Enriquez). While Jack feels a semblance of sympathy for Diane, there was no chance of him getting back together with her.
Phyllis was married to Jack twice. There was a reasonable chance they would eventually head back to the altar if she had not allowed her rage toward Diane to warp her actions. But it happened, and Diane won that battle by default.
Diane has admitted who she was in the past. How she used Allie Ngyuen (Kelsey Wang) affirmed that Diane has not changed all that much.
But Kyle’s mother and Harrison’s grandmother does not need to dig into her bag of tricks as often in modern times because her enemies have allowed themselves to go off-course. The alliance between Phyllis, Nikki, and Ashley proves that plot point, as they are expending energy in negative directions expecting the outcome they want.
Diane does not need to be who she once was. That front failed. If she stays the course, it feels likely that Diane will remain in GC indefinitely, and that is a win her enemies will have little to no power to prevent on Y&R.
