The distrust Nate has earned is furthered as Devon realizes Victoria is the Chief Executive Officer who was attempting to seize control of Chancellor-Winters. The insider trading proposal Nate offered Victoria was seen as creatively brilliant.
While Nate’s partial reveal put CW’s initial public offering plan on hold, the future of what once were Katherine Chancellor’s (Jeanne Cooper) and Neil Winters’ (Kristoff St. John) companies remains in doubt.
Devon’s punch to Nate’s face caused him to fall. Dominic’s character suffered a severe injury that caused him to be unable to use one of his hands.
Nate’s vocation was lost as a result. Devon felt little guilt because he reacted to the disturbing news Elena Dawson (Brytni Sarpy) relayed. She felt compelled to tell her then significant other, with whatever that subjective phrase meant at that point in the plot, that a romantic connection happened at New Hope with Nate.
Devon believed that Nate’s behavior at CW was fueled by harbored revenge. In recent scenes Nate finally acknowledged the truth.
Nate’s assertion to Devon, about him using Neil’s memory as an impossible standard, hit home. It feels as though Devon’s currently fractured sense of reality creates an opening that may benefit Tucker.
Neil was the man who stepped up, choosing to adopt Devon during his teen years when Yolanda Hamilton (played by Chene Lawson at that point in the plot in the mid-2000s) was besieged by drug problems, and the Tucker character was yet to be introduced. Drucilla Winters (Victoria Rowell) became Devon’s adoptive mother, and Lily Winters (Christel Khalil) became his adoptive sister.
The unexpected loss of Neil in the recent past devastated Devon, Lily, and all who cared about him. The same is true for everyone on both sides of the screen, as the loss of Kristoff St. John was crushing.
The implication in Genoa City, Wisconsin, is that Tucker will attempt to forge his own bond with Devon, with the unfolding scenario representing a prime opportunity.
Assuming Trevor St. John became the recast of Tucker as part of an effort to make him an enduring main character, Devon’s relationship with his genetic father will be vital. Of course, Audra Charles’ (Zuleyka Silver) role as Tucker’s mole stands to expose him as a snake.
But why not have Devon and Tucker eventually become the heads of a re-imagined Chancellor-Winters?
Jill Abbott Atkinson (Jess Walton) has a say in whatever may happen, as she controls the Chancellor half of CW. Lily is her appointed head. That could generate tension with Devon if he wants to include Tucker, who owns McCall Unlimited, in family business plans on Y&R.
