Y&R spoilers reveal that the Newman family thought they had finally found a way to save Victoria and get rid of Ashland. The plan was put in motion, Victoria played Ashland, and the agreement was signed. Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) wired $500 million, and Ashland was supposed to get out of town.
However, Victoria’s car crash changed everything. Ashland was following Victoria and pulled her out of the car as it caught on fire. Alone in his hotel room, Ashland actually shed tears thinking about how Victoria could have died.
Speaking with Soap Opera Digest, actor Robert Newman talked about playing the villain. The actor explained that Ashland’s relationship began with him manipulating Victoria. However, he fell madly in love with Victoria. Instead of money and power being Ashland’s driving force, it’s now his love for Victoria.
The Young and the Restless spoilers reveal that Ashland seems to think he can still get Victoria back. The residents of Genoa City – as well as viewers – are baffled why Ashland would think he has a chance. After all, Ashland faked having cancer, which is pretty much an unforgivable sin.
The actor told the magazine that Ashland seems to live in an alternate reality. There is what is actually happening, and Ashland’s view on the situation – which aren’t always the same.
“I think his driving force is his love for Victoria and I think he is willing to do whatever it takes to keep her in his world. I think he’s created an alternate reality that exists in his head that makes him feel less like he’s manipulating Victoria and more like he’s trying to salvage their love and their relationship with each other.”
Even though Victoria is considered a victim in Ashland’s scheme, she’s not totally innocent. Victoria didn’t exactly go into the relationship with an open heart. Even though it’s never been outright stated, Victoria seemed to be playing Ashland as much as he was playing her in the beginning.
As for Ashland being the villain right now, the actor reminded fans that the Newman family has done evil things, too. Specifically, the actor is referring to the things that Victor and Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) have done in the past.
“… maybe the idea of lying about having a disease is marginally worse than these terrible things, but it’s just an array of terrible things! It’s not like I’m working in a world of saints and I’m the bad guy. We’re all the bad guys! It’s just the degree of the bad guy, you know?”
