Ashland is believed to have paid doctors in Peru and presumably, New York to create and or endorse fake medical records. So, that raises a critical question and implication.

Has Ashland avoided a medical checkup within the past year? If he has, then Ashland could have a life-threatening condition that has not been diagnosed.

Let us get to the heart of this soapy matter. Either Ashland had cancer, or he did not.

It is possible that he had cancer, and it went into remission a significant period before he told his wife he received a new lease on life. But if he has been lying since the start, then Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) will be proven right.

If Ashland lied about having a terminal illness, he did so for a reason. The main reason would likely be to have secured the merger between Newman Enterprises and the Locke Communications Group. He preyed on Victoria Newman’s (Amelia Heinle) humanity to do so, which she will be forced to recognize.

Ashland will reinforce his Lockeness Monster nickname if it is unequivocally proven he deceived Victoria in this uber manipulative manner. She will go full Newman on him if that happens.

Victoria secured the merger before the marriage. She and Ashland realized the union of their companies early last fall. They later married in Tuscany, Italy.

The love Victoria has for Ashland is real. Rage will result if she confirms he duped her. But her feelings will likely not be eliminated, especially if he realizes an actual illness.

Devoted Y&R fans saw Ashland (as then played by Richard Burgi) endure a handful of experiences where he suffered some form of physical distress. Those incidents happened while he was alone.

So, Ashland was not faking whatever he was experiencing in the recent past. That implies something was or remains physically wrong with him.

If the physical distress Ashland endured is confirmed by a legitimate doctor as representing a real illness, then Victoria’s marriage can be saved. And what doctor’s diagnosis would Victoria, Victor, and other involved characters be unable to refute? Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic), of course.
