Devoted fans know, and newer viewers have learned that Hao was the name Keemo Volien Abbott took to honor his later mother, Luan Nguyen Volien Abbott (Elizabeth Sung). Jack, Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), and daytime devotees were stunned that Keemo had a daughter.

Jack knew he had to go to Los Angeles, California. Learning about the death of Keemo resolved a painful part of his life.

Keemo cut off contact with his father during the last years of his life. He felt unable to get past feelings of betrayal that were connected to his being left behind by both of his parents in Vietnam. Keemo also felt that he was robbed of time with his mother based on when Jack told him about Luan’s terminal illness.

Asking Phyllis to join him in LA was the right choice. While Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) and Billy Abbott (Jason Thompson) have Jack’s best interests at heart, Phyllis is the person he felt best to guide him and lean on during what projected as an intensely emotional experience.
