Adam has not been boxed out of Newman Media. Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) was adamant that Victoria specifically include language in the Newman-Locke sale agreement that named Adam the head of the media company she was acquiring and be named the head of its Chancellor Communications division.
Ashland was prevented from being part of the final sale agreement that took place at the Ranch. Victoria has also questioned him, on more than one occasion, about meetings he has been having without her approval.
While Victoria, Adam, and Ashland jockey for position, Victor remains the head. He is not the new man in the company.
In reverse order of power, Ashland is the newest player, Adam is under Victoria, and Victoria answers to her father. Each within the trio of Victor’s underlings believes that the future is or should be bright.
Victor’s distrust of Ashland is problematic. Those Victor distrusts never enjoy a smooth ride and eventually suffer some form of lasting business and potentially personal loss.
Victoria feels that this time is different. Contrasted to past instances where she worked under Victor and his Chief Executive Officer title, she is now the CEO. Her father agreed to her take-it or leave-it pitch and has been generally satisfied with her performance.
Adam’s inclusion in the sale agreement allows him to prove himself to a greater degree. So, even though Victor has not been pleased with his youngest son’s loss of killer instinct, he wants him on board. That places him as a sharp thorn in Victoria’s side, though she believes he is manageable.
As for Ashland. Teasers indicate that he is hiding some secret that will prove to undermine Victoria’s trust. Time will tell whatever that may be and how it impacts their marriage and merged business.
Adam has wallowed in his outsider role for years. But he was starting to believe that progress was being made on the family front. This deal alters his hopes.
Ashland does not doubt Victoria’s love. However, he now sees that her business demeanor does not include him as an equal business partner. That is not something he expected.
A major fallout between Ashland and Victoria will need to happen. If so, then the man Ashland has often spoken up for will also become his natural ally in a projected fight against Victoria and possibly, Victor, unless they disagree.
