The veteran Australian soap opera, Neighbours, ended its 37-year-run in July 2022. However, fans are thrilled that the soapie has been rescued by Amazon Freevee. In fact, Neighbours now has a brand-new home. Read on to find out more about the revival of Neighbours, its stars and when it will premiere on Amazon Freevee.

Neighbours rescued by Amazon Freevee

While Neighbours is an Australian soap opera, the show has been funded by UK broadcasting partner Channel 5. The soap has been running for 37 years, but has been airing in the UK since 2008. However, in February 2022, the channel pulled its funding for the show to focus more on producing original content. In fact, the series finale aired on July 28, featuring cameos by series vets Margot Robbie, Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce and Jason Donovan. Readers can watch the final scene here:

Fans were obviously devastated that the soapie was canceled, and the search for a new broadcasting partner has been unsuccessful, until now.

Now Amazon’s free streaming hub, Freevee (IMDb TV), is set to be the new home for Neighbours for the US and the UK. It will go on to host thousands of the previous episodes and will go on to air new ones. Meanwhile, in Australia, episodes will first air on Network 10 and then stream on Prime Video. Meanwhile, Neighbours’ stars, Alan Fletcher, Stefan Dennis, Ryan Moloney and Jackie Woodburne will all return for new episodes in the second half of 2023.

In a statement, Lauren Anderson, Amazon Studios’ head of AVOD original content and programming, said:

Neighbours has captivated its audience for nearly 40 years, building a dedicated and loyal following for the lives and stories of the characters on Ramsay Street.

With the power of streaming, we’re able to offer a catalogue of thousands of Neighbours episodes for new audiences to discover this legendary series and current fans to relive their favorite moments. We look forward to immersing the audience in new Ramsay Street experiences when we relaunch the show next year for Amazon Freevee and Prime Video customers.

As a reminder, Neighbours will air on Freevee (IMDb TV) in the US and the UK. Meanwhile, episodes for Australia will first air on Network 10 and then stream on Prime Video. According to TVLine, the revived soapie is expected to arrive during the second half of next year.
