The fraud conspiracy case was first exposed by Todd’s estranged son Kyle Chrisley who revealed to Daily Mail that back when his parents announced in their reality tv “Chrisley Knows Best,” that they relocated to a smaller place, it was actually a lie and that his parents were bankrupt.
After Todd and Julie were declared guilty on June 7, 2022, the couple an appearance on his daughter’s podcast “Chrisley Confessions” on Thursday, June 16, to say they believe God to vindicate them.
“We did want to come on today and let everyone know that it’s a very sad, heartbreaking time for our family right now,” he confessed. “But we still hold steadfast in our faith and we trust that God will do what he does best because God’s a miracle worker.
Amid the fraud case verdict, Todd found himself in another legal battle with former Georgia Department of Revenue investigator Amy Doherty-Heinze. Amy is suing Todd for defamation over what he said about her during his appearance on his daughter’s podcast “Chrisley Confessions.”
Appearing in her daughter Savannah’s podcast “Unlocked with Savannah Chrisley,” Todd revealed that his comments on Amy weren’t intended to come out maliciously, they came from a place of anger, he revealed that after he was declared guilty of fraud conspiracy, he grew extremely angry that he didn’t mind what he said anymore.
In the podcast episode which was titled “The Todd Father” Savannah asked her dad, “At the beginning, and really up until the past few months, you had that anger towards the situation that I’m experiencing. And so, what did that feel like?”
Todd replied that his anger began after he had told his fans that he believes God will bring forth pieces of evidence that would prove his innocence, “I think that my anger grew from that.”
Back in 2019, Todd and Julie were indicted on 12 counts of tax evasion, bank, and wire fraud, and conspiracy, according to the indictments, the Chrisley deliberately “swindled” at least $30 million from community banks from 2007 to 2012 by inflating their net worth to be approved loans.
The prosecution alleged that the couple actively hid millions they made from the USA Network hit Chrisley Knows Best, as well as $500,000 in taxes Todd owed in 2009. This form of tax evasion had been going on for over 10 years at the time of the indictment. On June 7, Todd was then convicted of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and tax fraud.
On the other hand, Julie was convicted of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and tax fraud. She was also charged with wire fraud and obstruction of justice.
After the guilty verdict, the couple announced per PEOPLE that they would be appealing verdict. Since their announcement, moves to see it through are yet to be made by the couple.
