The Young And The Restless Star Eric Braeden ‘Disqualified’ To Play James Bond For This ‘Ridiculous’ Reason

The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers tease that we’ll see more of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) in the weeks ahead. With the holidays quickly approaching, Victor will have more scene time.

According to Showbiz Cheatsheet, Eric was in the running to play James Bond, but the casting team disqualified him for a really silly reason. Keep reading to find out the scoop.

The Young And The Restless – Victor Newan Wasn’t Supposed To Be On The Soap Long

The character of Victor was only supposed to be on Y&R for 26 weeks. It didn’t take the viewers long to love or hate the character, demanding that CBS keep the crude businessman stick around. In 2020, Braeden celebrated 40 years on the show and shared some of his favorite moments from his 40-year career as Victor Newman.

“My all-time favorite scenes were the one I had with Dorothy McGuire, who played my mother (Cora). Also, the ones I had with George Kennedy, who played my father (Albert),” Braeden said. “They were so emotionally rich. I’ve also had memorable scenes with Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) and Peter Bergman (Jack Abbott).”

To this day, the fans love Victor. What’s not to love? He’s a dedicated family man, a loving husband to Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott), and built a multi-billion dollar company. So, why didn’t the James Bond movie franchise want him to play the world’s most famous spy?

Y&R Spoilers – Star Passed Over As James Bond

The actors who played James Bond over the years are impressive. From Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan to Daniel Craig, the fact that they considered Braeden to play Bond was a compliment in itself.

Braeden never auditioned for the role, but according to the report, the casting director seriously considered him for the role. They disqualified him as a potential James Bond because he didn’t possess a British passport.

That seems like a silly reason to lose such an iconic role. Even though Braeden lost out on being James Bond, he said he values his time on Y&R and cannot wait to see what’s next for the great Victor Newman. It’s a good thing he didn’t get the role. Otherwise, we’d see much less of Victor.
